This Privacy Policy explains how Rove ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
Information we collect
- Account information (such as name, email address, and phone number).
- Device and usage data (such as device type, OS, app version, and diagnostics).
- Location data (when you enable location features in the app).
- Camera and microphone data (when you start a safety stream).
- Contacts you choose to add as trusted contacts.
How we use information
- Provide and improve the Services.
- Enable safety features, alerts, and streaming to trusted contacts.
- Respond to support requests and communicate service updates.
- Protect against abuse, fraud, or security risks.
- Comply with legal obligations.
How we share information
We share information only as needed to provide the Services, such as with service providers that help us host, secure, and operate the app. We may also share information if required by law or to protect user safety.
Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Services and meet legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account and data.
Your choices
- You can update account information in the app settings.
- You can disable location or camera permissions in your device settings.
- You can request access or deletion by contacting us.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Analytics
We use PostHog (EU-hosted, https://eu.i.posthog.com) to understand how visitors use rovesafe.com. When you allow analytics, we collect this data anonymously and without using cookies:
- Page views and time spent on each page.
- Clicks on buttons and links.
- Where visitors came from (referring website, marketing campaign UTM tags).
- Aggregate browser, device type, and country (derived from IP address before it is discarded).
We do not collect: your name, email address, phone number, IP address (it is processed but immediately discarded), or any text you type into the page. We do not link your visit to your identity in our app or services. We do not share this data with advertising networks.
Our analytics provider, PostHog, processes this data on EU servers (Frankfurt, Germany) under the GDPR. You can read PostHog's privacy policy at https://posthog.com/privacy.
Cookies & Consent
rovesafe.com does not set any tracking cookies. Analytics runs in cookieless mode and stores nothing on your device. The only thing we store locally is your consent choice itself - a small record in your browser's local storage under the key rove_consent_v1 that remembers which categories you allowed. It contains a random, anonymous identifier, a timestamp, and your category choices. Nothing else.
We ask for your consent through a banner on your first visit. You can choose between three categories:
- Strictly necessary - stores only your consent choice. Always on, cannot be disabled.
- Analytics - the PostHog measurement described above. Off until you opt in.
- Marketing - reserved for future campaign attribution. Currently inactive and off by default.
Your choice is remembered for 12 months. You can change it any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page, which reopens the same preferences dialog.
If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal, we treat that as a refusal: no banner is shown, no analytics requests are made. Browser extensions that block analytics requests are also respected - we have no fingerprinting fallback.
